Native to the Indian subcontinent, Dalbergia sissoo (commonly called Indian Rosewood) was introduced to Arizona for its fast growth and excellent shade. In its native range, it thrives along riverbanks, with strong roots that stabilize soil. Here, however, those same roots quickly become destructive.
Sissoo trees can grow 40 to 60 feet tall, but their invasive root systems spread far beyond the canopy. They often crack driveways, lift sidewalks, clog irrigation lines, and even threaten home foundations . Cutting the tree down rarely solves the problem, since roots continue to sucker and spread.

Each sprout that’s allowed to grow will start creating its own root system, repeating the sprouting process as it gets taller and develops thicker roots.

Randy was good at explaining what he saw about the health of our trees and course of action. He also volunteered tips how to take care of some other trees on our property.
We had the bio-boost treatment to help a struggling ash tree and to also boost some orange trees that we planted last year. He was also a good natured and helpful person also volunteering some tips about care of our orange trees. The bio-boost is injected into the ground with a probe. Note: it may result in puncturing underground irrigation if unlucky. The probe poked a clean hole into our in-ground PVC irrigation lateral that I paid someone to come repair.
Another crew came to trim dead branches from our large tree and remove some stumps with a grinder. I thought they would just grind and leave holes. I was pleased that they cleaned up the debris, filled the holes, and covered with the surrounding gravel. Where there had been stumps, I could hardly tell there had been anything there before at all. Will was the crew's lead person who spoke with me during their time in our yard. I also found him to be good at explaining and I felt like he actually did care about the quality of work being done. I hope that Heartwood will reward him and the others who came with him.
