- Location and soil assessments
- Input on tree varieties and needs
What We Do
Tree planting is a process, not a single step. We handle every part of it so your new tree gets the strongest possible start.
- Input on tree varieties and needs. We recommend species that suit your goals, your space, and the desert climate, whether that is fast shade, low water use, fruit and citrus, flowering color, or a native look.
- Location and soil assessments. We evaluate sun exposure, drainage, soil quality, and caliche, and we account for mature size so the tree never conflicts with your home, pool, hardscape, block walls, or overhead power lines.
- Root ball inspection. Before anything goes in the ground, we check the root ball for health, circling roots, and girdling that would stunt or kill the tree later.
- Expert pre-planting and planting process. We dig the hole to the correct width and depth, break through caliche when needed, amend the soil where appropriate, set the tree at the proper height, and stake it only if it truly needs it.
- Establishment care guidance. We set up a watering schedule for the critical first year and show you how to adjust it as the tree matures, plus we are available for follow-up trimming and fertilizing.
We plant everything from young nursery stock to large box trees for instant impact.
Both the assessment by Randy (arborist) and the actual services were pleasing experiences.
Randy was good at explaining what he saw about the health of our trees and course of action. He also volunteered tips how to take care of some other trees on our property.
We had the bio-boost treatment to help a struggling ash tree and to also boost some orange trees that we planted last year. He was also a good natured and helpful person also volunteering some tips about care of our orange trees. The bio-boost is injected into the ground with a probe. Note: it may result in puncturing underground irrigation if unlucky. The probe poked a clean hole into our in-ground PVC irrigation lateral that I paid someone to come repair.
Another crew came to trim dead branches from our large tree and remove some stumps with a grinder. I thought they would just grind and leave holes. I was pleased that they cleaned up the debris, filled the holes, and covered with the surrounding gravel. Where there had been stumps, I could hardly tell there had been anything there before at all. Will was the crew's lead person who spoke with me during their time in our yard. I also found him to be good at explaining and I felt like he actually did care about the quality of work being done. I hope that Heartwood will reward him and the others who came with him.

We have used Heartwood over the past years for numerous services. They are on time, do a thorough job, clean up my whole yard, are friendly and on time. Years ago they cut down our massive beloved pine tree that was dying. They were not only professional but it was fun to watch how the crew worked together and they truly enjoyed their work. Over the years all my friends and family have used Heartwood for their tree needs. We will never use anyone else.
Fantastic service by a great crew! Thanks, Will and the "A" team
We had a large ash tree in the corner of our backyard that was healthy and happy, but unfortunately had been planted too close to the neighboring properties, so large roots were getting close to a pool. I discussed our options at length with Randy, who was very helpful in walking through the advantages and disadvantages of options. The work (removal) was done well, with excellent cleanup and followup.
Had another great experience working with Heartwood on a project to remove some oleanders at my home. Randy did an excellent job assembling the bid. Brittani did a great job of communicating project related news. Day of the job, Randy and Casey arrived on time, did a fantastic job with the removal and left the site clean as a whistle. This was the second time I've used Heartwood and I'm very satisfied with the outcome. If you need to remove some trees, make Heartwood your first call.
